Vignoles

Vignoles were the first vines that we had planted at Sharpe Hill in 1992. The varietal was developed in France in the early 20th century as a Pinot Noir cross. Phillip Wagner brought it to America in the 1950's and our original plantings were purchased from Phillip Wagner. Wine made from the Vignoles grape is very fragrant with lovely citrus and tropical fruit flavors. Vignoles is one of the grapes in the Ballet of Angels blend. When left on the vine an extra month this variety produces great dessert wines. This is because of its susceptibility to Botrytis, which concentrates the sugar in the grapes. Our Select Late Harvest wine is made entirely from these grapes.
